About the Center
River Raisin Raptor Center flourished as a result of one person's passion for raptors, the environment, and the desire to teach others about the wondrous world of wildlife. The existing center is located in the home and on the land of its founder and director, Dody Wyman. Dody has been working with raptors since 1990 and incorporated the organization into a 501 ( c) (3) non-profit in 1999. Since the beginning, she has volunteered her time completely.
Both the center's rehabilitation services and educational outreach programs continued to grow and outgrow the capabilities of Dody and her small but committed volunteer staff. In 2006, a partnership was formed between the Raptor Center and Leslie Science and Nature Center located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Nature Center now houses the fourteen non-releasable educational raptors and provides the public with all of the educational outreach programs. The birds are open to viewing during all daylight hours.
River Raisin Raptor Center continues to provide rehabilitation services and admits well over 100 raptors annually. All of the Raptor Center's expenses are paid for through private donations. No public funding is provided by either the State of Michigan or the U.S. Government.
